Colorado Book and Arts Festival Workshop: Your Storied Past: How to Write an Autobiographical Narrative

Description

2:30-4:00
Studio 28
Suitable for teens and adults

By tapping into an age-old formula—the one that begins “Once upon a time” and turns to “And then one day”—anyone can compose a riveting story about a major or minor incident that changed their lives either obviously or subtly. In this workshop, you will brainstorm the subjects of several such stories, either as nonfiction or fiction, and structure one of them from beginning to end. You will leave the workshop with the beginning of a new essay, memoir chapter, story, or novel, along with the ideas for two more, and a much better understanding of how stories (and character development) work.

David Hicks, PhD is the author of the novel, White Plains. He is also a professor of English at Regis University in Denver and co-founder/co-director of the Mile-High MFA in Creative Writing.
